Chart: Data shows Raleigh home values compared to other major NC cities
The median value of a home in Raleigh is estimated at close a half million dollars now, according to figures from online real estate marketplace company Zillow.
And that’s still not the most expensive estimate in North Carolina.
We looked at data from Zillow to see how the median value of a home compares in the four largest NC metro areas. (Note: These numbers represent values for single family homes, according to the Zillow Home Value Index.)
In January, Zillow named Raleigh as the No. 3 hottest real estate market in the country.
A chart showing figures for Charlotte, Raleigh, Greensboro and Winston-Salem can be viewed below.
Comparing home prices in NC cities
▪ At the beginning of this year, Charlotte had the highest median home value out of the four major cities — but not by much. Charlotte’s median home value was just at $500,000 ($499,891 to be exact).
▪ Trailing closely behind, Raleigh’s median home value was $498,078 in January 2022.
▪ Greensboro and Winston-Salem were comparable to each other, though both cities’ median home values were under half the price of those in Raleigh and Charlotte at the beginning of this year. Greensboro’s median home value in January 2022 was $234,777, and Winston-Salem’s was $232,458.
▪ Over the past five years (since January 2017), home values in NC’s four largest metro areas saw nearly a straight shot upward. Here’s what the median home values for each of these cities were in January 2017:
- Raleigh: $312,157
- Charlotte: $301,736
- Greensboro: $145,201
- Winston-Salem: $140,757
