Here’s a bit of background on Avelo, the newest airline to begin service at Raleigh Durham International Airport.

Where is the airline based?

The company is headquartered in Texas — though its flights are based out of Burbank, California, and New Haven, Connecticut — and first began service in 2021.

Where does it fly?

Avelo will begin with flights to New Haven, Connecticut, five days a week. From New Haven, it also offers service to Savannah, Charleston, Myrtle Beach, Nashville, Chicago, Washington/Baltimore and six cities in Florida.

From Burbank, in suburban Los Angeles, it offers service to cities in California, Oregon, Washington, Utah, Colorado and Nevada.

The airline says it offers point-to-point flights and doesn’t consider Burbank or New Haven hubs in the traditional airline sense. In other words, it doesn’t expect passengers to catch a connecting Avelo flight at either airport.

What type of planes does it use?

Avelo has a fleet of Boeing 737s.

Is Avelo a discount airline?

Avelo says it offers everyday low ticket prices, which it is able to do by using mostly smaller airports — like New Haven instead of New York. It is advertising fares as low as $49. Its website lists the Raleigh-New Haven service, but is not yet processing purchases. The website is aveloair.com.
