Not in Kansas anymore: Life sciences firm relocates headquarters to downtown Raleigh

Raleigh is getting a new life sciences headquarters, as the regulatory consulting firm ProPharma announced this week it will relocate its global center from a Kansas City suburb to the Triangle. Currently based in Overland Park, Kansas, ProPharma will occupy three floors in a downtown Raleigh building that once housed the Father and Son Antiques shop.

ProPharma estimated its new headquarters will bring 75 to 100 new jobs to the Triangle in the next two years.

“The growth in downtown Raleigh over the past few years has been monumental, and we’re excited to add another dimension to the city’s expanding commerce and life sciences scene,” said ProPharma CEO Michael Stomberg in a statement Monday. “We are also proud to be the first ever Research Consulting Organization to call downtown Raleigh its home.”

Founded in 2001, ProPharma advises clients on regulations surrounding medical drugs, devices and scientific processes. It employs around 2,500 people worldwide and is owned by private equity firm Odyssey Investment Partners.

In its statement Monday, the company called moving to Raleigh “a differentiator in attracting and retaining top talent who are brought in by the vibrant city culture.”

The Triangle consistently ranks as a top life sciences hub. Last summer, the outlet FierceBioTech named Research Triangle Park the fourth best place for biotech, behind Boston, San Francisco and San Diego. Around the same time, the commercial real estate research firm CBRE listed Raleigh-Durham as the nation’s sixth strongest center of life sciences research talent.
