An Indian grocery store is expanding to its second location in the Triangle.

At about 10,000 square feet, the new Apna Bazar will be nearly twice as large as the original store on Davis Drive in Morrisville.

Located in the new Freedom Square development at Green Level Church Road and Green Level West Road in Apex, Apna Bazar’s second location is expected to open in late 2025, Satish Deva, a partner at Apna Bazar, told The News & Observer over the phone.

With the added space, the new Apna Bazar will feature amenities including a kitchen for fresh, hot food, a section for halal meat and compared to the existing location, more freezers.

“There are a lot of new products that are coming into the market now, so we want to be able to keep more of them,” Deva said.

Stocking a range of products is already a priority for the store. If a customer asks for an item that isn’t available, Apna Bazar notes the request and makes an effort to carry it.

Deva said the store is “thankful for the community and glad to serve the community by bringing all the products that they require, they need, they want.”

Triangle Business Journal was first to report the news of the grocery store’s expansion.

Apna Bazar’s growth coincides with an increase in North Carolina’s Asian population.

Census data shows that the Asian population had the highest growth rate of all racial and ethnic groups in North Carolina 2022-23, The N&O previously reported.

Asian residents make up about 9.3% of Wake County’s population, The N&O previously reported, the highest of any county in North Carolina. In Morrisville, where Apna Bazar’s original store is located, nearly half of the residents are Asian or of Asian heritage, and of those, about a third are from India or are of Indian heritage.

Several developments are taking shape in western Wake County.

In Apex, several new projects are bringing single-family and multifamily housing options, along with retail, restaurant, commercial and industrial space.

  • New York developer RXR recently broke ground on Veridea, a 1,100-acre project with multifamily units, single-family homes and townhomes, along with retail, restaurants, commercial and industrial space, and a new campus for Wake Tech Community College, The N&O reported this month.
  • Tri Pointe Homes plans to build a new subdivision, Castleberry Reserve, with 170 luxury homes.
  • Businesses including Harris Teeter have started to open at Sweetwater Town Center, a mixed-use project off Richardson Road near U.S. Highway 64.

And in west Cary, ZOM Living is planning a 330-unit apartment complex called Azalea at the Park.
