A Massachusetts-based wholesale club could be opening a new store in the Triangle.

BJ’s Wholesale Club recently purchased about 12.7 acres in Johnston County, deed records show.

The property is in the Eastfield Crossing development in Selma. The AdVenture Development project, accessible by exits 97 and 98 off Interstate 95, spans 435 acres and will include retail, commercial, hotel and residential space.

Triangle Business Journal first reported the land purchase.

BJ’s Wholesale Club, which has four existing Triangle stores in Raleigh, Garner and Cary, has not announced plans for a new location in Johnston County and did not immediately respond to The News & Observer’s request on Friday for more information.

However, Johnston County records show an outline of an approximately 107,000-square-foot warehouse club and surrounding parking lots on the site.

BJ’s Wholesale Club has more than 250 stores across 21 states, including nine in North Carolina. A 10th store, in Southern Pines, has not yet opened.

What else is planned for Eastfield Crossing?

Johnston County’s first Target is coming to Eastfield Crossing. Sources previously told The N&O that the Minnesota-based company was shooting for a spring 2025 construction start date, which would put the store opening around Q1 2026.

“It’s huge for Selma, North Carolina,” Mayor Byron McAllister told The N&O in August 2024. “It’s huge for Johnston County.”

What has recently opened at Eastfield Crossing?

Since October, several stores have joined the shopping center:

  • Academy Sports + Outdoors
  • Burlington
  • Marshalls
  • Ulta Beauty
  • Hobby Lobby
  • Old Navy
