A furniture chain will make its NC debut this year with 6 new stores
A furniture store with roots in the Northeast is expanding into North Carolina this year.
The company, Bob’s Discount Furniture, announced plans to open six stores across the state, including two in the Triangle, in 2025. They are among 20 new stores expected to open this year, with the remaining 14 located across Virginia, Michigan, Nevada, Iowa, New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Massachusetts, California and — a first for the company — Vermont.
“We’re excited to bring our on-trend assortment of furniture, mattresses, and home accents at everyday low prices to new customers and markets,” Ramesh Murthy, the COO of Bob’s Discount Furniture, said in a company blog post announcing the news. “Adding new territories also allows us to make a local impact on more communities by generating jobs and providing support to local schools and nonprofits, things that have been core to Bob’s since our founding over 30 years ago.”
Bob’s Discount Furniture sells mattresses, furniture and home decor.
Here’s what we know about the new Bob’s Discount Furniture stores planned for North Carolina.
Where will Bob’s Discount Furniture open in NC?
Bob’s will open a half dozen stores across North Carolina in 2025, all expected this summer and fall. Here’s where they will be:
- One store will open at Patterson Place in Durham, The News & Observer previously reported. The furniture store will move into a 33,839-square-foot space that formerly housed Bed Bath & Beyond.
- Another store will open in Cary. Wake County documents show that Bob’s Discount Furniture has leased a space at Crossroads Plaza, the shopping center near U.S. Highway 1 and Interstate 40 that also contains Dick’s Sporting Goods, Hobby Lobby, Best Buy and HomeGoods. According to the Kimco Realty leasing website, the furniture store will take the approximately 43,000-square-foot space formerly occupied by Bed Bath & Beyond.
- Bob’s Discount Furniture will also expand into Fayetteville (5075 Morganton Road), Winston-Salem (1020 Hanes Mall Blvd.), Wilmington and Jacksonville.
“In North Carolina, we believe that the growing population and rich furniture market will be a great fit for our value-driven approach to furniture shopping,” Murthy said in the blog post.
One of the North Carolina stores will be the company’s 200th, according to the blog post.
NC’s furniture industry
North Carolina is known for its furniture industry. While the U.S. now imports much of its furniture, North Carolina still has an edge when it comes to high-end custom furniture, The N&O previously reported.
And the city of High Point hosts a prestigious furniture trade show twice a year.
