While the New Hope Commons location is closing, Dick’s will open a new store in Durham.

Dick’s House of Sport will not be a traditional Dick’s store, though.

This concept offers athletic gear and apparel along with space for athletes to try their equipment.

The 100,000-square-foot store at The Streets at Southpoint will have a climbing wall, golf bays with TrackMan simulators and a cage where baseball, softball, lacrosse and soccer players can experiment with gear and test their performance.

A grand opening for the store, moving into the former Sears space at the mall, is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 10 through Sunday, Oct. 12.

There will be giveaways and expected appearances by former UNC-Chapel Hill athlete Julius Peppers and Duke University forward Grant Hill, who will sign player cards provided by Dick’s.

The Durham Dick’s House of Sport is the brand’s second in North Carolina. A location in Fayetteville opened in 2023.

Another Dick’s House of Sport is expected to open in the old Sears space at Crabtree Valley Mall in Raleigh.
