A popular sneaker and sportswear retailer is joining the tenant lineup at a Raleigh mall.

JD Sports, which has more than 400 stores across the U.S., will open its first Raleigh location at Crabtree.

The location, which will join North Carolina stores in Charlotte, Greensboro and Wilmington, is expected to open this spring.

JD Sports will take a nearly 7,000-square-foot space on the lower level, across from Hollister.

“Opening our first Raleigh location at Crabtree allows us to connect with a vibrant and style-forward community,” John Magee, senior vice president of JD U.S. Retail, said in a news release. “Crabtree’s position as a premier shopping destination makes it the ideal location to introduce our curated mix of global brands and exclusive products to new and existing JD Sports consumers.”

The retailer is owned by UK-based JD Sports Fashion, which also owns Finish Line.

Stores opening at Crabtree mall

The Raleigh mall, which gets more than 8.7 million visitors annually, Crabtree said, is getting a new retailer this year.

Escapology, an escape room concept, is expected to open this spring. It will have 10 immersive games across a 4,600-square-foot space on the lower level.

One of the mall’s anchor tenants, Belk, is making changes to its Crabtree location.

  • The men’s department will be moved to the same storefront that houses the women’s, kid’s and home departments. While not adding any square footage to the store, Belk will include upgraded fixtures to maximize space and utilize space that’s currently not used to house merchandise.
  • Belk will have an in-store coffee and wine bar.
  • The department store will get a “refined personal shopper studio.”
  • Shop-in-shop concepts will be introduced for “premier” brands across departments such as beauty, fine jewelry and handbags.
