A cat boutique in Cary has closed its brick-and-mortar after three years.

Meow City, located in the Village Square shopping center off of Cary Towne Boulevard, shut its doors in March after about three years.

The store announced on social media that its lease was up, and it decided not to renew.

“Unfortunately, with the cost of operating a business and not enough customers, we can’t justify staying open this way,” the store wrote. “It was a nice dream and I absolutely don’t regret the past three years, but it’s time to move on.”

What is Meow City?

Meow City offered a “carefully curated collection of cat-wares and creative gifts for the cat lover in your life.”

Much of its in-store merchandise, including cat toys and treats, and cat-themed apparel and accessories, is still available for purchase online at meowcity.shop.

Meow City will also continue to attend pop-up markets as a seller, the store said on social media.

The store was located at 659 Cary Towne Blvd. The Village Square shopping center is also home to retailers including Planet Fitness, an ABC Store and Dairy Queen.
