ReMax/United real estate agency gets new owner

ReMax/United, one of the largest residential real estate agencies in the Triangle, has a new owner.

John Wood, who has been an agent in the Triangle since 1988, is the new Broker/owner of the business, which employs 125 agents in two offices in Raleigh and Cary.

RexMax/United was founded in the late 1980s by Bill Owens and Lynn Britt. Owens retired several years ago, and Wood said in an interview that he bought Britt’s ownership stake last week.

Wood previously owned a ReMax/United franchise, which was folded into the larger company in 2008 after the housing market crashed.

Wood said he plans to keep the ReMax/United name. He said little will change in terms of the operation of the business.
