Pool foyer? Quirky NC house with one-of-a-kind layout lands on Zillow Gone Wild
Two words: Pool foyer.
That’s all Zillow Gone Wild, the popular Instagram account that features the strangest and most eccentric homes listed on the real estate marketplace, had to say to make its point about this Raleigh home.
Listed earlier this month for $750,000, the 3,576-square-foot home offers a “one-of-a-kind” layout. A full-sized pool in the atrium greets visitors just as they enter.
“A stunning centerpiece,” the listing reads, for any future owner.
Built in 1984, the house at 7913 Ebenezer Church Rd. sits on a 2.55-acre lot next to Umstead Park and was designed “as-is.” The interior includes three bedrooms, three and a half bathrooms, an office and media room.
The master is decked with plush electric-blue carpet, while a small box-like room serves as an extension to the living room. It sits above the pool, strangely resembling a shriving pew.
“What is that box upstairs?” asks one commenter on the Zillow Gone Wild Facebook page.
“Confessional/sex cage,” another offers as a possible explanation.
And a more plausible possibility: “From the looks of those huge speakers, I’m assuming DJ booth upstairs!”
The listing agent Desiree White of EXP Realty LLC solved the mystery. “It’s an old-fashioned elevator cage sitting on a balcony,” she told The N&O. “The owners bought it for decoration.”
Outside, a two-car garage, deck and gazebo overlook landscaped gardens. Horse lovers also get a barn with four stalls and access to riding trails in the park.
The property is zoned for multifamily residential, allowing for potential expansion.
“With a little TLC, it offers incredible potential,” the listing promises.
It’s certainly piqued the interest of followers on social media.
Uploaded to the account on Oct. 13, it’s already garnered over 30,000 views.
“I know EXACTLY how this house smells,” one admirer wrote.
“Chlorine and menthol cigarettes,” replied another.
“YMCA,” a third person chimed in.
One noted the proximity of the pool’s edge to the sliding doors: “It looks like we better be sober coming out of the house or we will be taking a dunk in the pool?!”
But buyers, apparently, couldn’t resist. Within days, the house was under contract.
Take a look for yourself.
