North Carolina’s count of coronavirus cases jumps to 63

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services listed 63cases of coronavirus in its online tally Wednesday, up from 40 a day earlier.
According to a count by The News & Observer, North Carolina had at least 71 total cases of coronavirus as of early Wednesday afternoon. That includes cases announced by DHHS as well as county health departments, Duke University and U.S. Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune.

North Carolina has processed 1,850 tests for coronavirus, which includes tests run at the state lab as well as “reporting hospital and commercial laboratories,” DHHS said Wednesday. The state lab has run 430 tests, according to the DHHS website.
To slow the spread of illness, Gov. Roy Cooper has banned mass gatherings of 100 people or more, closed K-12 public schools and ordered bars and restaurants to close except for takeout and delivery.
