North Carolina says it now has 97 coronavirus cases

North Carolina had 97 cases of coronavirus early Thursday morning, according to the latest count on the state Department of Health and Human Services’ website.

That includes 32 cases in Durham County, the most in the state, DHHS says. There are 22 in Wake County.

The News & Observer has kept track of confirmed cases of coronavirus through county health offices as well as DHHS. North Carolina had 115 confirmed cases of the virus after Mecklenburg, Guilford and Davidson counties reported their own numbers Thursday morning.

The state says at least 2,505 tests have been completed.

To slow the spread of illness, Gov. Roy Cooper has banned mass gatherings of 100 people or more, closed K-12 public schools and ordered bars and restaurants to close except for takeout and delivery.
