Northlake Mall closing, but some businesses will stay open as coronavirus cases rise
Another Charlotte mall is closing following Gov. Roy Cooper’s order Monday to stop gatherings of 50 or more people to combat the spread of the novel coronavirus.
Northlake Mall is temporarily closing, effective 7 p.m. Monday, according to a press release. The mall plans to reopen April 6.
Dillard’s and Firebirds Wood Fired Grill (take-out only) at the mall have chosen to remain open. Other restaurants or retailers may remain open at various hours “to provide essential services,” the release states.
Northlake Mall features stores including Apple, Victoria’s Secret, H&M, Pottery Barn, Forever 21, Dry Goods, Dick’s Sporting Goods and Sephora, as well as a 14-screen AMC Theater. Many of those businesses voluntarily closed last week.
Carolina Place Mall in Pineville remains open but with reduced hours, according to its website. Mall officials could not be immediately reached for comment.
A week ago, Brookfield Properties cut hours at all of its U.S. shopping centers, including Carolina Place Mall, to noon to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday. Northlake Mall also had cut hours last week and canceled all events through the end of the month.
Carolina Place Mall recommends that customers check online at carolinaplace.com for other tenant hour changes. The mall sees more than 14 million customers a year and includes 124 stores including Belk, Dillard’s, JCPenney, Dick’s Sporting Goods and REI, according to Brookfield Properties’ website.
On Wednesday, Simon Property Group, which owns SouthPark Mall, Concord Mills and Charlotte Premium Outlets, closed its shopping centers nationwide. The retail properties are closed through March 29.
Monroe Crossing also is closed, according to a message on the mall’s website. Two malls outside of Charlotte, Eastridge Mall in Gastonia and Rock Hill Galleria, remain open.
Several large retailers, including Apple, Macy’s and Charlotte-based Belk department store, also announced temporary store closings.
Cooper on Monday also ordered fitness centers to close. However, Mecklenburg County made that order, along with closing movie theaters, last week.
Hair salons, barbershops, nail salons and massage therapists also must close by 5 p.m. Wednesday, according to Cooper’s order.
Infinity Medspa and Wellness at 2809 Coltsgate Rd. announced Monday morning it had already planned to close effective Monday. Appointments through April 6 will be rescheduled, the company said.
“We would like to encourage you to put your best foot forward and stay positive as we navigate this together. We will get through this,” the announcement stated.
