COVID-19: With Triangle residents ordered to stay home, bus systems pare their schedules

As more businesses close and people are told to stay at home to curb the spread of coronavirus, the Triangle’s bus systems are cutting back their schedules.

GoDurham, GoRaleigh, GoTriangle and GoCary will all operate most of their routes less frequently starting Monday, because of falling demand and to discourage unessential travel during the COVID-19 outbreak.

The changes vary from one system to another:

GoRaleigh will operate most of its routes on a weekend schedule starting Monday. Exceptions include the routes serving hospitals, such at the No. 2 Falls of Neuse, No. 4 Rex Hospital, No. 15 WakeMed and No. 19 Apollo Heights, which will run as normal. More information at goraleigh.org.

GoDurham will reduce frequencies on Routes 4, 5K, 7, 10B, 11, 11B and 20 on Mondays through Saturdays and suspend service on Route 5K. GoDurham had already suspended all service after 9:30 p.m. More information at godurhamtransit.org.

GoTriangle will go to a Saturday schedule Monday through Friday and a Sunday schedule all weekend. Also starting Monday, GoTriangle will suspend its express buses between downtown Raleigh and Wake Forest, Fuquay-Varina and Wendell and Zebulon. More information at gotriangle.org/maps-schedules/gotriangle.

GoCary will run on a Saturday schedule on weekdays, but will add early and late buses to operate between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. More information at gocary.org.

Chapel Hill Transit cut back to a Saturday schedule on March 19.

All of the transit systems are not collecting fares and are having riders board and exit the bus using the rear door, to enforce social distancing and reduce contact with frequently touched surfaces.

In addition to the websites for each bus system, riders with questions may call the regional information line, 919-485-7433.
