Forsyth County resident dies from coronavirus

A Forsyth County resident has died from COVID-19, bringing North Carolina’s death total to eight, according to the state Department of Health and Human Services.

This is the first coronavirus-related death reported in Forsyth County.

Neither the county nor the state health department released information about where the individual lived, but the City of Winston-Salem government posted about the death on Facebook with statements from local officials.

“I express my sincere condolences to the family of the individual who succumbed to the COVID-19 virus,” Winston-Salem Mayor Allen Joines said in one Facebook post. “This reinforces the importance of the city’s stay at home order.”

The Forsyth County Health Director Joshua Swift said this “unfortunate situation is a reminder that we must follow the Stay at Home order and utilize social distancing to protect ourselves and those around us us who are vulnerable,” according to another Facebook post from the City of Winston-Salem.
