The N&O is adding journalists to report on NC coronavirus recovery. We need your support.
Even before the first COVID-19 case was announced in North Carolina on March 3, the journalists of The News & Observer and The Herald-Sun were preparing for and reporting on the potential of a historic pandemic.
Since that day, we literally haven’t stopped reporting. Our journalists are working day and night, each and every day, to research and report on the devastating growth and impact of the coronavirus. More than ever before, millions of readers are relying on us for factual and intelligent reporting, along with stories of hope and resilience
We must and we will continue this reporting as North Carolina experiences more testing, illness and fatalities, and moves to recovery efforts. We are fortunate to have three reporters from Report for America to assist us.
Report for America reporters are placed in local newsrooms to augment reporting on crucial issues. Part of their salaries are paid by the national non-profit GroundTruth Project. In North Carolina, the N.C. Local News Lab Fund also has provided financial support.
For the remainder, we count on support from the community.
Here’s how organizations, businesses and individuals can help support our non-stop coverage of the pandemic: Make a donation to Report for America, using this form at bit.ly/NandORFA.
Donations can also be mailed directly to Report for America/The News & Observer Campaign c/o The GroundTruth Project, 10 Guest Street, Boston, MA 02135.
We appreciate your continued readership, engagement and support through this challenging period in our history.
Jane Elizabeth is the managing editor of The News & Observer and The Herald-Sun.
