Durham reported its first death due to coronavirus, and Johnston County announced its third Saturday evening, health officials said.

There have now been at least 33 coronavirus-related deaths in North Carolina, according to data collected by The News & Observer.

The Durham resident was over 65 years old and had underlying health conditions, Durham County reported in a news release.

Johnston County did not release any information about the person who died, other than the death occurred Saturday morning, according to a county spokesperson.

In other Triangle counties, Wake County has reported 302 cases, an increase of 19 new cases.

Durham County now has a total of 182 cases. There are eight new cases in Orange County, six new cases in Johnston County and two new cases in Chatham County.

In Harnett County, officials announced the county’s second death, according to a news release. The person was described as “elderly” with an underlying medical condition.

The Triangle now has at least 590 people who have tested positive for coronavirus.

The state has at least 2,500 cases. The number is likely to be higher because of limited accessibility to testing.
