Coronavirus outbreak in Wake County rehab facility grows to 47 cases
Wellington Rehabilitation and Healthcare in Knightdale has 47 positive cases of COVID-19, Wake County announced Sunday evening.
The rehabilitation center had four cases Thursday. Forty-three more cases were identified Sunday. It was the county’s first outbreak at a long-term care facility.
Of the 47 cases, 20 are patients and 27 are staff members. Eighteen of the patients who tested positive are currently asymptomatic, according to the news release.
There are 21 pending tests remaining for those at the facility.
Wake County EMS and Medical Director Dr. Jose Cabanas said positive patients are being isolated in a single wing of the building, the release stated.
Employees who test positive and have no symptoms may return to work, but only in the wing where positive patients are located, it stated.
There were 28 COVID-19 outbreaks in North Carolina nursing homes as of Sunday, according to the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services website, including two each in Durham and Orange counties. The state considers an outbreak two or more cases.
Chatham County reported 51 new cases at The Laurels at Chatham nursing home Sunday. The facility had six cases on Friday.
