Six Durham County Sheriff’s Office employees at county jail test positive for coronavirus

Six employees at the Durham County Sheriff’s Office who work at the county jail have tested positive for the coronavirus but none of the inmates has been infected, a department official said Wednesday.

Sheriff’s Office public information officer AnnMarie Breen said the six employees remain at home in keeping with the coronavirus protocol.

Breen did not say if any of the employees testing positive had been in contact with the inmate population.

“We have tested inmates and all tests have come back negative for the virus,” Breen said in an email to the News & Observer. “We are continuing safety protocols among our staff to protect their health and the health (of) those housed within the facility.”
