Harnett County nursing home reports coronavirus outbreak as residents test positive

Three cases of the coronavirus were confirmed at a Harnett County nursing home, the county’s health department reported.

The cases were identified at Universal Healthcare Lillington a Nursing and Rehab Center, according to the county’s website.

There are 65 confirmed cases of coronavirus and five deaths in Harnett County, according to NCDHHS data. Forty-six people have recovered, according to the county.

Of the 261 deaths related to coronavirus in North Carolina, at least 87 of them have been at nursing homes and at least 22 at residential care facilities, according to the data collected by DHHS.

There are 40 outbreaks at nursing homes and 14 outbreaks at residential care facilities, according to the DHHS. “Outbreaks” at nursing homes are when at least two coronavirus cases are confirmed in a single facility.

In the Triangle area, Wake, Durham, Orange, Johnston, Chatham and Franklin counties have all reported outbreaks at nursing homes.

In Wake County, Wellington Rehabilitation and Healthcare in Knightdale and Sunnybrook Rehabilitation Center in Raleigh have reported outbreaks. Wake County is not reporting whether coronavirus-related deaths are linked with the facilities.

Durham has reported more than 100 cases of coronavirus at nursing homes. There are 91 cases reported at Durham Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 20 at Treyburn Rehabilitation Center and four at Durham Veteran Affairs Healthcare System Community Nursing Home.

In Orange County, two nursing homes report outbreaks, including at PruittHealth - Carolina Point, where there have been at least four coronavirus-related deaths and Signature HealthCARE in Chapel Hill.

In Johnston County, eight of the county’s 10 deaths have been at Springbrook Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, where 44 current or former residents and 21 staff members have tested positive for the virus.

Franklin County reports all 11 of the people who died due to coronavirus complications in the county were residents at Louisburg Nursing Center. Nine other residents are being hospitalized.

Last week, Chatham County reported its first coronavirus-related death was a resident at The Laurels of Chatham Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Pittsboro.
