Sheetz gas station employee in Durham tests positive for COVID-19

A Sheetz employee tested positive for the coronavirus at a Durham location.

The store and gas station located on N.C. 751 has been closed for a professional deep cleaning and disinfecting, according to a news release. Gas pumps will also be sanitized and cleaned.

“We are taking an abundantly cautious approach, working with all employees who may have had close contact with this employee and exceeding all sanitization guidelines,” said Nick Ruffner, a Sheetz spokesperson, in a statement. “All employees will be fully paid while this store remains closed.”

The employee last worked April 19. Sheetz was notified of positive test Thursday, according to Ruffner’s statement.

The Sheetz location is near the intersection of Interstate 40, not far from the Southpoint shopping centers.
