This North Carolina city ranks among the best for people in quarantine. Here’s why
North Carolina is home to one of the top U.S. cities for people in quarantine, a new report says.
Raleigh was named the eighth best place to be stuck inside, according to study results published last week.
Zippia, a career resource site, analyzed 99 U.S. cities to determine the best and worst places in which to be quarantined. Bigger apartments, more public green space per 1,000 residents, faster internet, and more takeout options meant the city was ranked higher on the list.
“Raleigh’s roomy apartments, excellent internet, and high amount of public leisure space make it one of the best cities to be quarantined,” Zippia said.
It wasn’t the first time North Carolina’s capital city got recognized for its space.
Earlier in April, Raleigh was named No. 1 in the country for “median lot size,” meaning its residents have the most room to spread out while in isolation, The News & Observer reported.
This time, it outranked other North Carolina cities, including Charlotte at No. 33, Greensboro at No. 59, Winston-Salem at No. 64 and Durham at No. 78, the Zippia findings show.
The results were released as states across the country respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.
To help stop the spread of the disease, North Carolina’s stay-at-home order has been extended to May 8. Another measure that can slow the spread is quarantine, when people who may have been exposed to the coronavirus stay inside and avoid other people, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
In its report, Zippia looked at apartment sizes and rentals from RENTCafe, public green space from the Trust of Public Land, the number of restaurants in each city on Doordash, and U.S. Census data to see the percentage of residents in each city with broadband internet, including DSL, cable, or fiber.
Overall, the top-ranked city was Scottsdale, Arizona, just outside of Phoenix, results show. Newark, New Jersey, ended up with the bottom spot on the list.
