Walgreens launches coronavirus drive-thru testing site in Durham

Walgreens is now offering drive-thru coronavirus testing at one of its stores in Durham.

Free services start Friday at 3798 Guess Road for people who have appointments and meet certain criteria, according to Durham County officials.

Those who are interested in making appointments must fill out information on the Walgreens website, according to a news release. During the testing, pharmacists will be on hand as patients administer their own tests outside the building.

The site is Walgreens’ first in North Carolina, spokesperson Alex Brown wrote in an email to McClatchy News. The company as of Friday said it had testing available in 20 states, with plans to offer the service in 49 states and Puerto Rico.

“Once all sites are fully operational, Walgreens expects to test more than 50,000 people each week,” the company said in a news release.

The company says the expansion plans are happening in partnership with LabCorp, which is based in Burlington.

“The new testing sites will utilize LabCorp’s COVID-19 nasal swab diagnostic test to determine if an individual currently has the virus,” Walgreens said.
