Two more coronavirus deaths reported at a Wake County nursing home

Two residents of Tower Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Wake County have died of COVID-19 since last week, part of an ongoing outbreak there where 89 people are infected and 14 residents have died, according to state reports.

Fifteen nursing homes in Wake County have ongoing coronavirus outbreaks, according to a state Department of Health and Human Services report released Tuesday. An outbreak is defined as two or more residents or staff in a congregate care facility testing positive for the coronavirus.

Wake County Detention Center reported 26 cases among detainees Tuesday, up from five reported Aug. 25.

The Goddard School of Holly Springs has an ongoing outbreak. In Durham, Duke Street KinderCare has a reported outbreak involving seven children and Child Care Network #58 has an outbreak involving three children and two staff members, according to DHHS.

Since Aug. 25, the state reported a new outbreak at Pettigrew Rehabilitation Center in Durham involving three staff members. Durham has COVID-19 outbreaks at eight nursing homes. The Durham Detention Center has an outbreak involving eight staff members and 21 detainees.

Orange County has an ongoing outbreak at one nursing home. Two other Orange nursing homes have dropped off the list since last week.

The Orange County Detention Center has an ongoing outbreak involving three staff members and one detainee.

As of Monday, there have been 9,169 COVID-19 cases and 1,105 deaths in nursing homes and 3,426 cases and 38 deaths in jails, DHHS reports.
