Mark Martin sworn in as NC Supreme Court Chief Justice
Mark Martin was sworn in as the 28th chief justice of the N.C. Supreme Court on Monday at the court chambers in downtown Raleigh. Justice Robert Edmunds Jr. administered the oath, and Gov. Pat McCrory and other dignitaries attended. Martin was appointed to the seat in late summer, replacing Sarah Parker, who resigned after reaching the mandated retirement age. Martin then won election in November. He has served on the Supreme Court since being elected in 1998 and has written more than 400 appellate decisions during his 20-year tenure on the Supreme Court and Court of Appeals. He is the only sitting judge in North Carolina who has served on the Supreme Court, Court of Appeals and Superior Court.
