Woman reported kidnapped at a Raleigh Walmart is OK, police say
Raleigh police say a woman who was reported to have been kidnapped after she and her boyfriend rode with a man to the Walmart on New Bern Avenue on Tuesday afternoon was later found and is OK.
Police put out an alert Tuesday evening asking people to be on the lookout for Jennifer Chatham, 34. They said Chatham and her boyfriend were walking along New Bern Avenue in Raleigh at about 2:30 p.m. when a man stopped his van and asked if they needed a ride.
The driver took them to the Walmart at 4431 New Bern Ave., where police say Chatham's boyfriend went inside the store.
When he returned, the van, driver and Chatham were gone.
Police put out another bulletin at about 1:45 a.m. that said simply that Chatham had been found and was okay. It did not say what had happened to her or if the driver of the van would be charged with a crime.
