Man found fatally wounded by gunshot in south Durham apartments

A man was found with a fatal gunshot wound late Monday at an apartment complex in a residential section of south Durham, but police did not indicate whether it was considered a homicide.

The man was found in the 1400 block of East Cornwallis Road after police were called about 10:15 p.m., spokesman Wil Glenn said.

The man, whose name and age were not given, died at a hospital, Glenn said.

Police termed the case a death investigation. They asked anyone with information to call Investigator E. Ortiz at 919-560-4440, ext. 29337, or CrimeStoppers at 919-683-1200. The address of 1400 East Cornwallis Road is the Campus Crossing apartments, which advertises itself as targeting a student audience.

The incident occurred in the complex, Glenn said.
