A man was found with a fatal gunshot wound late Monday at an apartment complex in a residential section of south Durham, but police did not indicate whether it was considered a homicide.

The man was found in the 1400 block of East Cornwallis Road after police were called about 10:15 p.m., spokesman Wil Glenn said.

The man, whose name and age were not given, died at a hospital, Glenn said.

Police termed the case a death investigation. They asked anyone with information to call Investigator E. Ortiz at 919-560-4440, ext. 29337, or CrimeStoppers at 919-683-1200. CrimeStoppers pays cash rewards for information leading to arrests in felony cases, and callers never have to identify themselves.

The address of 1400 East Cornwallis Road is the Campus Crossing apartments, which advertises itself as targeting a student audience.

The incident occurred in the complex, Glenn said.
