Police on Friday identified the victim of a fatal shooting three blocks north of Duke University’s East Campus as 34-year-old Tavares Hall.

Hall died at a hospital where he was taken in a private vehicle while officers were responding to a report of shots fired in the 1100 block of Lancaster Street, between Englewood Avenue and West Club Boulevard, about 8:30 p.m. Thursday, police spokesman Wil Glenn said.

Police said Hall’s killing did not appear to be a random attack, and they labeled it a homicide.

They did not disclose whether they had identified a suspect or knew the motive for the killing.
