A 50-year-old man was arrested after Raleigh police say he assaulted his Uber driver.

Richard Bacchus, of Raleigh, is charged with simple assault and injury to personal property. He was arrested early Thursday near downtown.

Raleigh police responded at about 1:30 a.m. to Western Boulevard and South McDowell Street, spokeswoman Laura Hourigan said in an email.

“Follow-up investigation revealed that during a drive in an Uber, a passenger and driver began a verbal confrontation,” which later turned physical, Hourigan wrote.

Both Bacchus and the driver were punched during the incident, according to the spokeswoman. She said the driver had “minor injuries.”
