Teenager hit and killed while crossing Clayton street, police say

An 18-year-old Clayton High School student died Thursday morning after he was hit by a vehicle in Clayton, the town’s police say.

At about 7 a.m., Gustavo Alexis Armenta Valadez was crossing Lombard Street from the Alta Mobile Home Park, according to a news release. Clayton police say Valadez was struck by a vehicle and died at the scene.

He was a “dedicated student who was active in the construction program & would have graduated this May,” Clayton police said in a Twitter post.

Grief counselors were at Clayton High School to offer support for students and staff, Principal Bennett Jones said in a statement on the school’s’ Facebook page.

Police say conditions Thursday morning were “dark and rainy.” Charges are not expected in connection with the incident, according to the news release.

Lombard Street has reopened to traffic, police said.
