4 Nash County inmates recaptured and 1 still on the run, sheriff’s office says

One of the five men who escaped from the Nash County jail Monday still hasn’t been captured, the sheriff’s office says.

Deputies are looking for Laquaris Rashaad Battle, 23, of Castalia, according to a post on the sheriff’s office Facebook page.

Sheriff Keith Stone, during a news conference Monday night, said the inmates were in an exercise area at about 3:30 p.m. and escaped by pulling wire from a fence, according to a live-stream video from ABC11, The News & Observer’s media partner.

Nash County authorities reported Monday night that two of the escaped inmates, David Viverette and Raheem D. Horne, were caught in Rocky Mount.

Two others, Keonte Daeman Murphy and David Anthony Ruffin, were “captured in another county,” according to a sheriff’s department Facebook post Tuesday morning.

The State Highway Patrol, the U.S. Marshal Service and FBI assisted in the search, Stone said Monday.

Battle was in custody on charges of simple assault, possession of a stolen vehicle and violation of the Nash County impact program, Stone said. He had no bond, the sheriff said.

A $1,500 reward is available for people with information on Battle, according to the sheriff’s office. Anyone with information is asked to call Twin County Crime Stoppers at 252-977-1111 or Nash County at 252-459-1510.
