Police identify 19-year-old found dead in Garner. They say incident wasn’t random.
Police have identified the 19-year-old Raleigh man who they say was found dead in a car in Garner this weekend from an apparent gunshot wound.
A 911 caller at about 7:50 p.m. Sunday said he was behind a car on Vandora Springs Road.
“They were driving down the road, swerving all over the place,” the caller said. “They crashed into a bush, so we stopped to help.”
A man in the vehicle, who police identified as Daniel Merkerson, was discovered dead. A woman in the vehicle had injuries that weren’t life-threatening, the Garner Police Department said on Twitter.
Police say “all parties involved appeared to know each other.” They are investigating the incident as a homicide.
The car crashed on Vandora Springs Road close to 7th Avenue, Garner police said.
