A student was found with a gun at Wake Forest High School Wednesday, according to a letter sent to parents.

“While no one was threatened in any way, bringing a weapon to school is dangerous and unacceptable,” Principal Patti Hamler wrote. “We received a tip from a student that another student was in possession of a gun on campus. Administrators and law enforcement responded immediately and found the weapon among the student’s belongings.”

The student was not identified.

Wake Forest town spokesman Bill Crabtree said a 15-year-old was taken into custody and will face a charge of possession of a firearm on school property. He will be charged as a juvenile, Crabtree said by email.

State law requires a 365-day suspension for any student found possessing a firearm on campus.
