A man from Cary was sentenced to federal prison for cocaine possession and weapons charges, according to federal authorities.

Gustavo Adolfo Ramos Lemus, 32, received a 70-month sentence and then five years of probation after pleading guilty in December, the release said

Robert J. Higdon, Jr., the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina, announced Lemus’ sentence Tuesday. Lemus had been charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine and with possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug-trafficking offense.

Investigators say a confidential informant working with Cary police contacted Lemus and wanted to buy two ounces of cocaine in 2015. On another occasion, the informant wanted to buy two ounces of cocaine for $1,900, the news release said. When police moved in to make the arrest, they say Lemus tried to discard a .40 caliber Taurus pistol. The gun was stolen, police say.

Police also seized cocaine from Lemus’ jacket. During a subsequent search of his home on Niles Street, police found more cocaine, digital scales and $2,000, the news release said.
