You’ll be able to take a bus between Rolesville and Raleigh for the first time starting in September, under changes planned by GoRaleigh.
The buses will run only during weekday commuting hours between a planned park-and-ride lot in Rolesville and Triangle Town Center, with stops at Wake Tech Community College’s campus on Louisburg Road. At Triangle Town Center, riders will be able to transfer to a local bus that leaves every 15 minutes for downtown Raleigh or a new GoTriangle express bus to Research Triangle Park.
Meanwhile, GoRaleigh also plans to begin all-day weekday service to Garner and Knightdale on routes that are now served only during peak hours.
The new Knightdale service would replace an express bus operated by GoTriangle and run every 60 minutes between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m. on weekdays. Instead of going into downtown Raleigh, the Knightdale route would end at the planned East Raleigh Transit Center, off New Bern Avenue outside the Beltline, where riders could connect with local buses.
The new Garner bus would run every 60 minutes between 5:30 a.m. and 12:30 a.m. on weekdays. It would use Garner Road to get in and out of downtown Raleigh, replacing a GoTriangle express bus that now uses Hammond Road.
The new and expanded routes are part of a larger expansion in bus service envisioned by the Wake Transit Plan, which also calls for four bus rapid transit lines radiating from downtown Raleigh and commuter rail between Garner and Durham by 2027. The plan is financed in part by a half-cent sales tax approved by Wake County voters in late 2016.
GoRaleigh and officials from each town will explain the changes and answer questions at three public meetings:
▪ Tuesday, April 16, 5 to 7 p.m., Garner Town Hall, 900 7th Ave., 3rd floor.
▪ Thursday, April 18, 6 to 8 p.m., Knightdale Station Park, 810 North First Ave.
▪ Tuesday, April 23, 4 to 6 p.m., Rolesville Town Hall, 502 Southtown Circle.
Before the Raleigh Transit Authority makes a final decision about the changes, it will hold a public hearing about the proposed changes at 4 p.m. on May 9 at the municipal building at 222 West Hargett St. People may also comment via email to GoRaleigh@raleighnc.gov.
