Durham police release name of man found fatally stabbed; violent crime up 11% this year
Durham police have identified a man found fatally stabbed Sunday night near the intersection of South Roxboro Street and East Cornwallis Road.
Officers were sent to to the 100 block of East Cornwallis Road shortly after 10 p.m.
They found John Kenneth Mason, 58, ,of Durham, who was taken to the hospital where he died, according to a police news release.
No charges had been filed as of Wednesday morning.

There were 14 homicides in Durham as of April 20, according to the Police Department’s website. That compared with nine homicides by that time last year and six by that time the year before that.
All told, reported violent crime in Durham was up 11% this year as of April 20, compared to the same period last year.
In 2018, reported violent crime fell 13.35% from 2017, according to the website.
