1 killed in high-speed single-car wreck in North Raleigh early Sunday

A person was killed in a car crash early Sunday morning in Raleigh.

Raleigh Police Department released the report Sunday afternoon for what it described as a “fatality crash.”

The report shows that the single-vehicle crash happened at 3:14 a.m. Sunday at West Millbrook Road and North Hills Drive in North Raleigh, near Shelley Lake.

The police report states the estimated speed at the time of the crash was 80 miles per hour. The posted speed limit is 45 miles per hour.

Jacob Shawn Barrett of Raleigh was the driver of the 2003 Nissan that left the road, struck a curb and then hit a tree, according to the Raleigh Police Department report. The vehicle then caught fire, according to the report.

The incident remains under investigation.

Also on Sunday, a Pennsylvania woman was killed in a single-vehicle car crash in Durham.
