A Cary Whole Foods employee tests positive for the coronavirus

An employee at a Whole Foods grocery store in Cary has tested positive for COVID-19, according to an emailed statement from Whole Foods.

The company did not specify when the employee from the Alston Town Center store in West Cary tested positive, or whether that employee came in contact with customers or other employees while sick.

A spokesperson did not respond to follow up questions.

“The safety of our Team Members and customers is our top priority and we are diligently following all guidance from local health and food safety authorities,” the statement read. “We’ve been working closely with our store Team Members, and are supporting the diagnosed Team Member, who is in quarantine.”

Multiple workers at a Whole Foods in Chapel Hill tested positive for the coronavirus earlier this month, the N&O previously reported.

As of Tuesday morning, Wake County had 1,048 reported positive cases of the coronavirus, according to statistics released by the state’s department of health and human services.

Whole Foods has installed plexiglass barriers at check out counters and now require temperature checks and face masks for anyone working in its stores and facilities, according to the company.

This is a developing story. Check back later for updates.
