Bandit Flight team to do flyovers across NC. Here’s how, when and where to watch.
For the second straight week North Carolinians can look to the skies for an aerial salute to the state’s healthcare workers.
The Flying For The Flag Bandit Flight Team will do flyovers at hospitals in North Carolina, starting Thursday in the Triangle. The group will do additional flyovers in Moore County (May 16), Greensboro and Winston-Salem (May 19) and Charlotte (May 21).
The flights are a continuation of the state’s Frontline Flyover series, dedicated to frontline workers during the COVID-19 pandemic and is part of National Hospital Week. Those who want to watch should not gather in large groups and should practice social distancing.
The Flag Bandit Flight Team does flyovers for football games at N.C. State and the Carolina Panthers, as well as NASCAR events.
“I expect there will be a lot of people turning out from a distance,” Bandit Flight Team Director of Marketing Wanda Jackson said in a phone interview Wednesday with the N&O. “There’s no need to be at a specific location because the flight path is going to go literally all over the Triangle.”
There will be a group of six planes. The planes will have smoke on at the hospital location.
“It’s going to look just like it does at a game,” Jackson said. “Only it’s not timed for the national anthem (like at football game flyovers), it’s going to be timed specifically to honor the teams working at the hospitals working hard.”
