UNC finds two new clusters of COVID-19 cases, in campus housing and fraternity house
UNC Chapel Hill identified two new clusters of COVID-19 cases: one at the Morrison residence hall and another at the Zeta Psi fraternity house on West Cameron Avenue in Chapel Hill.
The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services defines a cluster as five or more cases in close proximity.
These are the fifth and sixth clusters identified among UNC students since the fall semester began.
The individuals have been identified and are isolating and receiving medical monitoring, UNC said in a campus alert. The campus also has notified the Orange County Health Department and is working with the county to identify additional potential exposures.
All those living in the dorm and fraternity house will get additional information about next steps, the alert said.
Chapel Hill Police visited the Zeta Psi fraternity house on Aug. 8 after a complaint about a large party. Police warned residents about a violation of mass-gathering rules, but did not file charges.
Anyone experiencing COVID-19 symptoms such as a fever, shortness of breath, muscle aches or a cough, should contact their medical provider, Campus Health (919-966-2281) or the University Employee Occupational Health Clinic at 919-966-9119, the university said.
UNC continues to monitor on-campus behavior and compliance with the University’s Community Standards and guidelines on face masks, physical distancing and gatherings and events, the alert said.
