Want to intern at The News & Observer? Here’s how to apply.

The summer internship programs at The News & Observer is now open for applications.

Through the 10-week paid program, students will gain practical education and professional experience while working closely with reporters, editors and visual journalists.

The internship is open to rising sophomores, juniors and seniors as well as recent graduates in a four-year degree program.

Experience working at a college publication, either print or online, is preferred. A previous internship or freelance experience at a daily newspaper or professional news organization is a plus.

This is not considered a remote position. But accommodations could be made depending on coronavirus conditions.

Candidates must apply through McClatchy’s online application portal at mcclatchy.com/careers.

Candidates must include the following:

  • A one-page cover letter that summarizes why you want to be an intern in our newsroom.

  • Resume that includes links to your public social media accounts (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram).

  • Links to a samples of your work. If available: Personal website or portfolio.

  • At least two references.

While the deadline is Monday, November 30 at 9 a.m., we encourage you to apply early.
