The National Weather Service issued a frost advisory for Wake and several other central North Carolina counties Saturday, warning that temperatures will drop into the lower 30s overnight and into Sunday morning.

The warning said temperatures are expected to reach between 33 and 36 degrees in Wake, Johnston, Harnett, and multiple other counties.

The advisory is in effect from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m. Sunday.

The NWS warned frost could kill sensitive outdoor plants and vegetation, and recommended taking steps to protect plants from the cold before temperatures drop tonight.

A freeze warning was issued for Vance, Warren, Halifax, Franklin counties near the Virginia border, and Anson county by the South Carolina border, and is also in effect from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m. Sunday.

The NWS said those regions can expect sub-freezing temperatures between 30 and 32 degrees on Sunday morning.

In addition to damage to sensitive crops, the sub-freezing conditions can damage unprotected outdoor plumbing, the NWS said.
