Wake COVID testing site update: Five reopened after bad weather, three closed all day
After pausing COVID testing at all Wake County sites Monday morning due to severe weather, testing resumed at five locations, but three sites will remain closed.
The county announced the news on its website Monday morning.
The sites closed on Monday are at PNC Arena and Word of God in Raleigh, and at Five County Stadium (home to the Carolina Mudcats) in Zebulon, MAKO Medical shared via press release Monday morning. The Mudcat stadium site was to open for the first time on Monday.
Other sites are back open to appointment holders following Monday morning’s pause, Wake’s website says.
Wake County’s five testing sites, which are usually open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, are:
- Wake County Southern Regional Center — 130 N. Judd Parkway NE, Fuquay-Varina
- Wake County Northern Regional Center — 350 E. Holding Ave., Wake Forest
- Wake County Eastern Regional Center — 1002 Dogwood Drive, Zebulon
- Vision Church RDU Parking Lot — 5808 Departure Drive, Raleigh
- Wake County Health & Human Services Center Parking Lot — 2845 Kidd Road, Raleigh
No-cost testing sites in Wake County
To help meet recent demand, NCDHHS opened three new drive-thru MAKO testing sites in Wake County (which are closed on Monday, Jan. 3):
• Jan. 3 and 4 — The Word of God Assembly Church (just a few miles from the busiest site at Kidd Rd.) is offering testing 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, Jan. 3 and 4. This site does not require an appointment, but does require online registration at this link: mako.exchange/scheduler/registration/?location=6638. They are located at 3000 Rock Quarry Road. There are no out-of-pocket costs for testing at this site. The will ask for insurance information if you have it, but insurance is not necessary. Test results at this location should be returned within 24 to 28 hours.
• Monday through Friday in January — PNC Arena (home to the Hurricanes). Drive-thru testing is available at Gate E off Edwards Mill Rd. in Raleigh. The hours will also be 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday through the end of January. No appointment is needed but pre-registration will be required: mako.exchange/scheduler/registration/?location=6638. Results in 24-28 hours. There are no out-of-pocket costs for testing at this site. The will ask for insurance information if you have it, but insurance is not necessary.
On game and event days, hours will be 7 a.m. to noon. These dates are:
- Jan. 7: Hurricanes game
- Jan. 12: All Elite Wrestling
- Jan. 13: Hurricanes game
- Jan. 19: NC State basketball game
- Jan. 21: Hurricanes game
- Jan. 25: Hurricanes game
- Jan. 31: Potential event (to be updated)
• Monday through Friday in January — Five County Stadium in Zebulon (home to the Carolina Mudcats): This site was scheduled to open on Monday, Jan. 3, but is delayed due to weather. Normal testing hours are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. until the end of January. Results in 24 to 28 hours. Pre-registration will be required. There are no out-of-pocket costs for testing at this site. The will ask for insurance information if you have it, but insurance is not necessary.
The following five sites, sponsored by United Providers of Health, offer ongoing PCR tests with results back from the lab within 24 to 48 hours (via email). Register for time slot at any of them by calling 800-701-1023 or registering online: upoh.org/covid-testing.
