‘Unparalleled dignity’: Cooper orders flags in NC to remain at half staff through Monday

In honor of the life of Queen Elizabeth II, the N.C. Department of Affairs announced all U.S. and N.C. flags will remain at half-staff through sunset Monday.

Displays of remembrance for the 96-year-old monarch have been seen worldwide since her death on Sept. 8. As the United Kingdom’s longest reigning ruler, she sat on the throne for 70 years.

Her funeral will be held Monday at Westminster Abbey and is expected to be viewed by millions globally. At the conclusion of the funeral, there will be two minutes of silence across the U.K. in the queen’s honor.

“Queen Elizabeth led with unparalleled dignity over seven decades of a rapidly changing world,” Gov. Roy Cooper said. “North Carolina is proud of our close relationship with the people of Great Britain and we mourn the loss of an extraordinary leader.”
