A Charlotte-bound Amtrak train crashed into a tractor-trailer that was blocking the tracks Tuesday in Lexington, leaving at least one train passenger hospitalized.

Amtrak Piedmont Train 73 was traveling from Raleigh to Charlotte at about 9 a.m. when it struck the vehicle, Amtrak spokeswoman Kimberly Woods told The News & Observer.

The condition of the injured passenger wasn’t released. There were no reported injuries to other passengers or crew members.

A Lexington Police Department spokeswoman confirmed that the driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured. It was not disclosed whether the driver was in the vehicle at the time of the collision.

Amtrak is investigating the incident along with local law enforcement, Woods said.

In an alert posted to Twitter late Tuesday morning, Amtrak said that the train was stopped west of the High Point (HPT) station for a “mandatory recrew” and that major delays were expected.

The train returned to the High Point station. In a separate update, Amtrak said all ticketed passengers were to be transferred to Piedmont Train 75.
