Gas leak shuts down several streets in downtown Raleigh. When will the roads reopen?
A gas leak in downtown Raleigh is under repair, according to reports from news gathering partner ABC11.
Just before 9 a.m., Raleigh police began investigating a gas leak downtown, according to a tweet from police.
By 10:40 a.m., the leak was identified and secured by Dominion Energy, according to Persida Montanez, a spokesperson for the company.
“For clarification, the is no gas leak and the area is safe. The repair portion of the job does not involve gas,” Montanez said.
McDowell Street from Hargett Street to Hillsborough Street is closed off for the next 4-5 hours as officials attempt to fix the leak, according to the Raleigh Fire Department.
A dozen Dominion employees responded to the scene. Police said the Raleigh Fire Department was also on the scene.
Dominion Energy has not stated the cause of the leak and does not have an approximate time for the completion of the repair.
