A Morrisville man accused of murdering his wife called 911 himself, a town spokesman said.
Michael Aaron Matthews, 40, was arrested after his wife, Nabaruna Karmakar, 33, was found dead with two gunshot wounds Friday night in the couple’s Seagrave Place home.
He made his first court appearance on the charge Monday afternoon, where a judge ordered him to be held in jail without bail.
The 911 emergency call that Matthews made has not been released due to the ongoing investigation, Morrisville town spokesman Wil Glenn said.
Matthews and Karmaker were the only ones in the home that night, Glenn said.
The News & Observer has requested a history of calls for service to the couple’s home.
Police have not released a possible motive for the shooting.
Matthews told a Wake County judge during Monday’s hearing that he would hire his own attorney.
He appeared to shake his head as the judge told him he could face the death penalty or life in prison if convicted.
Before leaving the courtroom, Matthews turned around to wave to his mother and father.
Attorney Russell Babb told The News & Observer that his family had no comments to share.
Matthews is set to appear in court again on May 8.
News outlets reported a large police presence at the couple’s home on Friday night. Crews remained in the neighborhood for several hours before announcing the arrest, according to ABC11, The News & Observer’s media partner.
The home is located off Northwest Cary Parkway.
