Three people killed, one badly injured in Memorial Day weekend crash in Fayetteville

Three people were killed and another critically injured in a crash on the north side of Fayetteville early Saturday evening.

Police say the crash happened on Murchison Road at Harbor Road at about 5:13 p.m. They said a Nissan Frontier pickup truck headed westbound crossed the center line and hit a Mercedes Benz head on.

The driver of the Nissan, 38-year-old Stephen May, was pronounced dead at the scene, as were two passengers in the Mercedes, Martell Jones, 52, and Timothy Bradshaw, 64.

The driver of the Mercedes was taken to Cape Fear Valley Hospital with serious injuries. Police have not released that driver’s name while they work to notify family members.

The crash closed a section of Murchison Road, which is also N.C. 210, in both directions between Country Club and Shaw Mill roads. The road was reopened by 10 p.m.

Police have not released additional information about the crash. They are working to determine what caused the collision and ask anyone with information to contact Officer Biggerstaff at 910-751-1382.
