Pedestrian hit and killed Sunday night near Cary Crossroads area

Cary police are investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian on Buck Jones Road on Sunday night.

A pedestrian was hit and killed by an SUV on Buck Jones Road on Sunday night, according to police.

Minase Hizkias Agegenhu of Raleigh was hit shortly before 9:12 p.m. at the intersection of Buck Jones and Nottingham Drive, near the South Hills Mall and Plaza. Police and firefighters who were called to the intersection found Agegenhu, 61, lying dead in the road, according to police spokesman Kendric Alexander.

The driver of the GMC Acadia that hit Agegenhu remained at the scene and spoke with police officers. Valemetria Lassiter, 35, was later charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and failure to reduce speed.
